“The nature of space reflects what it wants to be”
-Louis Kahn
Teresa McWalters is a design strategist and practicing architect, based in San Francisco.
Challenging contemporary norms of architecture, Teresa spent nine months in Mumbai documenting the socio-spatial effects of low-rise, high-density informal living communities. Her commitment to design as an agent for social change has directed her to behavioral psychology and early cognitive development as an understudy to spatial design. Respectful of the naturalangsamkeit (the slowness of nature) and the ways in which we process new information, her work is inspired by what goes on in the human brain at moments of perceptual incongruity or surprise.
She received her Masters of Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design in 2012 and her Bachelors in Art History from Stanford University in 2008. She is currently a project designer at Stanley Saitowitz | Natoma Architecture Inc, San Francisco.
